Belize City

We flew into Belize City which was once the capital but has been stipped  of its capital status as of 1971.  This city is known to be the dirtiest and most dangerous place in Belize.   There are streams of sewage along side the streets,  buildings in need of repair and the traffic floods the crumbling roads.  The roads are something else,  many potholes and concrete crumbled into a dirt road.  Anything with 4 wheels and a steering wheel could be called a taxi.  Belizean people are made up of Mestizos, Creoles, Garinga, East Indians, Chinese and Mennonite people.  We found there were a lot of hustlers wanting to take you anywhere you would like to go.

Our hotel manager, Nancy arranged for her pastor to be our taxi driver and tour director to show us around the city Saturday  morning.  We saw where the cruise ships came in, the market area which the passengers from the cruise ship are lead through,  the Swing Bridge,  the bridges the Canadians and Chinese government built for the country, also saw the ADM small wheat milling facility here.  Once again we find out Canada is a helpful country in this neck of the woods.  Really not a lot to see in Belize City.

Looking out from our hotel to Belize University.
